Classic Results

Our midsummer Childress Rodgers Classic went smoothly this weekend with lots of familiar faces. Riders were able to demonstrate their technical riding skills through the classic over a more difficult course including two rounds which are given a score out of 100 from the judge. The rider who has the highest score of both trips combined will reign as champion for the year, and will receive the Childress Rodger’s Classic trophy, a yearly prize of the show.

After the second round of competition, Gratitude and Taylor J. Christoff came in third, Awaited Wish and Olivia Lusby came in second, and Superfly and Olivia K. Wilson came out on top of the class with an overall score of 165.5 for a well deserved victory in the 2’6 - 2’9 classic section. In our 18 inches - 2ft section, Out Of Money and Zoya K. Chima scored the top spot with an overall score of 163. Gigi and Harlan E. Fulton came in second, followed by Rain and Olivia Lusby placing third.

Remembering Chile Rodgers

The Childress Rodgers Classic is held in memory of Childress Rodgers, the founder of Childress Rodgers Stables in Milford, Ohio. Chile was a very well known trainer, a real legend of her time who greatly impacted the Cincinnati horse world, although if you asked she would consider herself a horse trainer more than a riding instructor. She was an Olympic level equestrian but was never able to compete due to the fact that she was a female and was not in the armed forces though she did compete for over 25 years.

Chile loved and excelled in the Camargo Hunt, and even jumped 6 feet in the Madison Square Garden. Without her, Cincinnati riding for the handicapped (now Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship) would have never come to be. Started in 1985, the program began with a small gray pony that Chile provided named Molly. After every riding class Chile would be there to check up on how everyone was doing. “How was your class, did you have enough volunteers, how were the ponies?” Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship is a 501(c)3 and in 2002 accepted a partial donation of land 15 minutes from Chile’s barn. This move was necessary due to the rapidly growing programs CTRH provided and the ever-growing wait list. Although risky, the move was well worth it and many local foundations, individual and corporate, were made to support the program which is still going strong today.

Ever since 2016, Windfall Farms has been supporting Chile’s by hosting this yearly show. Going on year five, the legacy of Chile and this yearly classic are well known in the community. Windfall takes great pride in our competitors and spectators, and loves to see the familiar faces that continue to return each year not only to the Childress Rodgers Classic but the summer show series as a whole.
